Upgrading Tires
I have four buddies with chevy trucks and all of them run 285/75/16's, they fit great on there but I dont think there is any way they could stuff 35's under there like we can on the FORD's, Fords just sit up a lot higher, for instance my roommate has an '02 gmc z-71 and when we are parked next to each other mine towers over his, its great!!
OK, just for a follow up. I went to my mechanic over the weekend to see if he could level the truck via the torsion bars, he wanted over $400.00 to do it! In his defense he was going to realign the tires. I thought this was a little much so I went home and tried it myself. I raised the front end 2 1/4''. It looks great. It changed the look of the truck, dramatically. I know there are a lot of people whom say not to raise it over 2'' but I went very slowly, every full turn (about a ¼ of an inch) I drove it around the block. By the time I got to “fully level” I didn't notice very much depreciation in ride quality. That being said, my finance noticed the difference before I told her I did anything. Oh well. It was totally worth it. Since I did not have my tires aligned, I realized they will wear out (possibly) much quicker. This is not that bad since the alignment is not out to the point of being noticeable in driving and I really want new tires. So they wear out a little faster and I get my new tires a little faster. It all works out! I also wanted to thank everyone for their help and advise. If it wasn't for f150online I would never had been able to do this.
