how to you take a tire size and determine how tall/wide it will be in inches?

my understanding was that 275 / 60 / 20 means that 275 is in mm of the width where the tread is located...60 is the percentage of that number once converted in inches which would determine the height of the sidewall and then 20 is the rim size, so youd add the sidewall height and rim size together to equal the total height/width.


(275/60/20)

so i did... 275 divided by 25.4 (conversion from mm to in) =10.83

10.83 x .60 (60%) = 6.49

6.49 + 20" rim = 26.49 in total height...

However someone already posted that this tire would be around 33"...so I know I'm doing something wrong here, I'm just not sure what.

Just a guess but maybe 6.49 x 2 = 12.98 + 20" rim = 32.98?
I find it easier to just use this Tire Size Calculator

The easiest way to do it is (width * higth * 2 / 2550 + rim size)

Example: (235*75*2/2550+15 = 28.8" tire) hope this helps
