When I bought my truck it did not have the center caps for the 16" steel wheels. I bought a set of the center caps and the clips that hold them onto the lug nuts are too big. Do I need to get bigger lug nuts or is there a plastic part that goes over the lug nuts and then tha caps clip onto those?

Is this related to the infamous 12 mm or 14mm Lug Nut Question?

Also, I tried bending the clips in a little bit and they will fit this way but they are not really tight and I am thinking that they may come off while driving. There also is about a 1/8 inch gap between the wheel and the center cap when I put one on this way. These are Ford center caps too, not aftermarket ones.
