Parking brake release assembly

The cable on my parking brake release handle is starting to fray with only a couple of strands holding it on anymore. I need to fix it since its a manual. Where can I get one? I am thinking it might be a separate piece from the front parking brake cable but my haynes manual says nothing about it. Checked a couple of parts stores around here but no luck. Nothing online as yet either. Anyone know if this is a dealer part only? 98 F150 4.2 SWB.

e-brake cables are available through NAPA auto parts as well as through your dealer or www.fordpartsonline.com

There is a connection piece under the cab or closer to the bed (depends on cab/bed length). The cable that goes to the pedal just pops in with a t-stud and wraps around the cam above the pedal. Just follow it back, under the truck to where it connects to the next cable and disconnect.

I hope this helps....there easy to fix, just time consuming.....
