General Grabber AT^2
I need to replace my tires soon and have been looking at the general grabber AT^2 and the BFG AT KO. Is any body running the general tires? A lot of people are running the BFGs, but from what I have heard they tend to slick over in mud. I am looking at the general because they are around $720 for 5 (gonna match up the spare) 285-75-16 where the BFGs are $1340 for the same size, both those prices include balance and mounting. I think the BFGs come with a 50000 mile warranty, and the generals with 60000. Any opinions on both tires will help.
Also I would be putting these on a 97 150 4x4 extcab 4.6L. Will the 285s rub a lot/ at all thru the suspension range of motion? I currently have 245s on and they look tiny on the truck. Going to the 285 from the 245 would drop abotu 7.9% off the torque and also cause the same speedo error, how bad will the torque loss effect my take off/ towing ability?

From what I have been told the BFG does not have a milage warranty. They are a very good tire just a little pricey. I had a 99 f150 4x4 ext. cab lariat, until somebody liked it better then I did, with 285/75/16 and the fit was tight. I know have an 02 supercrew FX4 with the same 285/75/16 BFGs. I have 80k miles on them and they been a great tire. I've been having a hard time convincing my wife to let me spend the $$. So Iam thinking about the procomps at 4wheelparts they are about to start there buy3 and get 1 free sale. I have no idea about the generals. the 285/75/16 are about the same diameter as the 33"s you will lose some torque but you can get it back by other mods. And if you have 3.73s you should be in good shape. If you are running 3.31s you might want to reconsider the upgrade. Just my opinion!

there should be a tag on the rear diff. It should have you axle ratio. For example 3L55 (3.55 LS) right after that 9.75 (9.75 inch axle)
If you can't find it there look at the drivers door jam there should be a sticker with vin# ect. It should give you the axle code. Then you could call your Ford dealer or do a search online. Google search with axle code (ford rear axle ??)

I've been thinking about the Grabber AT2's also; posted a question about 10 days ago but no one responded. I discovered them while searching websites for tires. I think they look somewhat similar to the BFG's. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about is that the 265/75R16 size only comes in an E load range; was hoping to go no heavier than a D range. The other option I'm considering is the Mastercraft Courser C/T or Cooper Discover S/T.

My current tires are 245-75-16 goodyears load range E. I have had good luck off roading with the Es, they don't pop like my friends C rated tires on his '03 dodge. The E rated tires ride like rocks on the road though, I also was hoping to go for the D rated since I don't haul or tow that much weight. A guy near me has 265s on his 2wd and they look great, but I think a little bigger would look better on my 4wd. Does anyone know if anybody makes a 275-70-16 or 275-75-16 size tire other than bfg?

I blew a belt on a General Grabber AT with less than 100 miles on it. Obviously a bad tire, General would not replace it or even cut me some slack on the replacement. They said it was mounted on a vehicle for which it was not designed. I asked what vehicles came with 33x12.5 R15's and they said none. A-holes...
Anyway the tires lasted me 25K on a Bronco with 6 Inch suspension that I pulled a 10,000 lb trailer with frequently. They still had at least 3/4 tread when I sold the truck. Double check the load range on the ones you are looking at, Buy "Road Hazard" if they offer it and specifically ask about the tires being on a truck.
They made a wicked growl on pavement too. My father in law would know it was me driving by his house from half a mile away with the house windows open, that would be at about 45 MPH.
My last three trucks I have put BFG A/T's with no issues at all.

First version, had to just be A/T's this was like 5 years ago. I'd be more concerned that they don't Warantee their stuff through the dealerships than anything, probably just one bad tire out of who knows how many. The other three and the replacemment never gave me any trouble, not even a flat...
As a side note YOKOHAMA is giving my father in law the same answer, his 11 month old tires are dry rotting with 10K miles on them, they will not honor the warantee because the tires are installed on a truck that they were never Original Equiptment on...
It just sucks to make "generally speaking" a $500 plus investment in a name brand product and told tough crap when something goes wrong.

Well after I called around to about 10 stores, and none had the General AT2 and ordering it sounded like a 1-2 month backlog, ened up throwing that choice out, too bad seemed like a good tire. I called around to some more shops for the BFGs, again few had them and the few who did wanted around 1300 to mount up 5, rip off for a tire that after more research doesn't come with any warranty I could find. I ended up getting a set of 285-75-16 Bridgestone Dueller ATs and a generic AT tire to use as a spare that would be the same size. For 4 Bridgestones and a generic cost me $750 driven out the door. As a side note, I was quoted $710 for 4 Mastercraft CTs at another shop, which I didn't think was as high of quality tire as the Bridgestones.
