Oooohhh...liked that spanking......

I was being a little liberal with my comments.

100,000+ mile LT truck tires contaning kevlar---No Longer produced
Sears Tread-Loc circa earliy '80's (made by Goodyear)
Big O Big Foot AT circa late 70's - earily '80's (made by Uniroyal)
Wild Country FW (mudder) Tread circa earil '80's (made by Kelly)

Just to name a few.
They were out there and people loved them, they just didn't need another set so the tires got discontinued. Yes, they are obscure tires. But if people did research tires before buying name brand they would be happier.

I'm just so glad to be out of that industry after 15+ years.

Tires are not "computer generated". Well they put in specs and out pops a tread design from computer models. Well at least this is what happens at Kelly, Goodyear, Yokohama, Toyo, Bridgestone/Firestone, Dunlop and Uniroyal. So technically no, computers do not make a tire. It is made and tested by people. But the tread design is not human made.

If your a fairly aggressive driver, you can expect about 50K out of them keeping them balanced and rotated. They are not inexpensive tires. I don't like them because BFG is owned by Michelin (of France), and they price fix them. They are, however, good tires in all conditions, but are heavy and ride a bit stiff (3-ply sidewall). They also tend to pick up every rock on the road and through them against your rocker panel.

Best tires I've ever had on a pick-up were Bridgestone Dualer A/T's (within the last 2 years). They now have a Dualer Revo A/T that is supposed to be just awesome. Toyo Open Country A/T's are also highly rated. I understand Yokahoma Geolander A/T II's are excellent as well and quite inexpensive. They are considered a "best buy." Procomp is another tire that is outstanding, but it can be a challange to find a place that normally stocks & services them (other than major cities).

Where ever you go, make sure you can get good service including a balance & rotate at least every 5K. Shop around for service and selection. Check www.tirerack.com for tire reviews and ratings. Personally, I don't see myself ever buying a set of BFG A/T KO's again. I don't need them & the price is too high (+ I avoid products of French companies).

Oh yeah...make certain you get an "LT" 6-ply tire at a minumum. 4 Ply "P" tires are garbage...barely fit for cars.
