rubs just a bit

I went to Discount Tire last weekend and was trying to see if they could fit some tires on my truck. I have a 3 inch spindle and add a leaf in the rear on my 01 SuperCrew 2wd. They fit a 315/75 16 on a 16x8 wheel. It mounted but it rubbed really bad on the front plastic part of the bumper and it rubbed just a little on the back part of the fender. It seems like I could trim it to make it work if I really wanted, but it is so close! It seems like if any weight is added, it will rub. Do you guys have any suggestions for making these fit without too much trimming. I don't want to put a body lift on. I am up for any suggestions.

You can trim the valence on the front of the bumper.

Im not exactly sure where you are talking about on the back though.

Otherwise, you could bump down to a 305

Add a set of Daystar coil spring spacers to lift the front another 2 inches.

what are the pros and cons of having coil spring spacers? I don't want to have a bumpy ride. Would I have to get the truck re-aliigned afterwards? How much do you think I am looking at spending?

as for the part on the back of the fender. it is a black plastic piece that protects the edge of the painted fender. Its pretty small, it is on the outside of the fender plastic guard.

as for the spacer lift.. I may be interested in that because it would level out the truck. Thanks

I had to trim the area to the back of the tire to. What you have to do is take off the black plastic shield, their are a bunch of plastic pop out screws. Then you need to grind or cut the metal that is sticking out. It will give you about another 1 to 2in. And your going to have to tack that plastic back to the metal with screw.

It's kind of a pain in the a$$ but it will work. But if your rubbing that bad you might want to get the spacer as well.

From what i have heard the spacer makes the ride a little stiffer, because the downward travel is shortened a little. But i wouldnt know personally, im still waiting to install my spacer when i get a chance, its just sittin in my garage.

Im not sure on the pre-'04s, but I believe some of the first lift kits for the '04s were Daystar coil spring spacers. From what I heard about that kit, it did not change the ride very much if at all. Of course this may be a different story for the pre-'04s.

Installation should be rather simple. Remove the spring, install the spacer, reinstall spring, you're done (allignment may be necessary but Im not sure so I will let someone else chime in on that one).

Johngs is right. The initial portion of the suspension travel will be a little stiffer and you will have to have the front end aligned. You may or may not need to buy a camber kit ($40 or $50 from NAPA) to get the truck to align correctly after the spacers are installed.

I havnt put on my spacer yet and I was looking over the instructions i have found and they tell you to take off the tie rods and ball joints and all that stuff. I was just thinking if you have a spring compressor (I Do), couldnt you just take off the shock and then compress the spring and just slide the spacer in there?

i will second the last post. if someone could type out some detailed instructions of the installation for the spring spacers if they have done them before. Any tricks to get certain things off as well. I have spring compressors but i am not sure if i can just clamp the spring down to where it will just come out... so if anyone could help that would be great. I heard the average time for installing these is somewhere around 2 hours. Thats probably not possible. I think my main problem will be pulling the shock out another 2 inches to mount it, I was having an extremely hard time mounting it with just the spindle lift. I dont know any tricks to getting those shocks to fully extended and mounting them. But any help would be great. Thanks again.

Put the spacers on and NOPE cant just compress them and slide them on.

Had to take off just the upper ball joint and stabalizer and put it in there.
