Cranking up the torsion bars is free. Afterwards you need a front end alignment. In my area that is $39.00, except Tuesdays when they have a $29 special. Also, most 4x4's came with a 32 (265/70-17) inch tire, so I'd at least go with that or a 33.

When I mounted my 33's (285/75-16) on my stock 16x7 wheels they were not even close to rubbing. When I mounted them on 16x10 inch wheels, they barely touched the front bumper's lower valance. I trimmed about a 1/2 inch of plastic off that and the problem was solved.

is there any negative side to cranking the torsion bars? what about clearance with the 33's? is there any room for suspension to move?

The biggest negative to cranking up the torsion bars is that the initial portion of the suspensions travel is stiffer. Some people hate the stiffer ride, some love it. You can try for yourself and if you don't like it, return to the stock settings. Also, you don't have to crank up the torsion bars to fit 285's if you are using the stock wheels or 8 inch wide wheels.

It's not hard at all. Just take an 18mm socket and turn each adjustment bolt the same number of turns untill you get the height you desire. Some people jack up the front of the truck while doing this, some don't.
