Sticking Emergency brake Cable

The passenger side e-brake is sticking on if I use it. I have to wiggle the cable quite vigourously to free it up. The cable comes from the front drivers side under the truck, and splits to 2 cables right about inline where the gas cap cover is. The passenger side brake cable veers off from the drivers side going towards the passenger side rear wheel, goes over the differential and down a bit and comes up to the rear passenger wheel. It seems to seize in the area between the diff and the wheel. I tried to force some lube in there from the small opening at the brake end of the cable but I am not getting it to let go by itself. Every time I use the e-brake, when I release the E-Brake, I have to get out and play with the cable in order for it to release completely.

Any suggestions out there or is changing the cable the only solution.

Remove it and try twisting the cable inside the casing. This might free it up. If it doesn't you will need to replace it. I have done all of mine from front to back.

Thanks JMC

I will try that, A friend here at work suggested that if I remove it, to try to force lub inside the cable with compressed air from one end of it. I think I might try to clean it with TB cleaner first, let it dry out and then a light lube. I figure If I remove it and let it hang from one end, the lube should make it's way to the other end.

My "trusted" family mechanic told me they are sealed units. Replaceable, not repairable. When mine was sticky he told me to live without it or just replace it.

Ah, the beauty of non-lubeable, sealed parts

Well, Sticking fixed... for now anyway,

I had unhooked the brake cable only to find out that in fact it was inside the drum that the E-brake shoes were sticking.

While I had the rotor/drum off, I noticed that the rear pads were down to about an 1/8th of an inch. So I put on new pads, lubed up the shoe assembly, and voilą, the E-brakes and disk brakes work like new again(maybe even better).
