Tire is broke

I just had an alignment done (darn tie-rod ends!!) and the shop told me my tire was "broke". Sure enough, I have a slight bulge in the sidewall. Looks like the internal banding (?) seperated. The guy at the shop just told me to keep an eye on it, but this seems like a blow out waiting to happen. anyone else run into this? It is a Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX, not even 10,000 miles yet. Hopefully they take care of me when I give them a call... sure seems like this shouldn't have happened.

I agree. You have a defective tire.

I have buldged 4 tires from potholes on a couple cars. Plenty of sidewall to absorb on my truck tires, though. The tire may be defective, but I bet the tire shop claims road problems.

I don't mean to imply that tire manufacturers don't have defective tires (thinking of Firestone here) but many sidewall buldges are indeed impact breaks/road hazard and not a defect. Most don't even feel these problems when they happen. Often times when the tire is broken down and off of the rim you will see a split on the inside of the tire where the buldge is.

That's what the shop suggested. I honestly can't remember a time where these tires have taken such a hit that I would have been worried. How about still driving on this tire and just keeping an eye on it. Is this something that will eventually start to bulge more and I will notice a difference before complete failure?

If there is a rupture in the sidewall it's just waiting to let go. Don't mess with it replace it. This is true whether it's a defect or road hazard. Your life ain't worth trusting it.

For not cool on Tires

My 2 month old passenger tires (why on a 4x4 truck I'll never know) have already been replaced. Two on the rear then another one on the front the other day.

They are Goodrich "Rugged Trail" (ha ha) T/A (in this case meaning Ford=Tight A@@).

Interesting for an '04 F-150 Lariat 4x4 with EVERY option. 3 new tires and she just turned over 980 miles ....

There's also a little "rattle" in the roof area near the dome light (w/moonroof). The service tech said he's need to get me a loaner because it wold take a day and they would have to call in an outsource team to take out the interior & check it out.

I guess I'l leave it rattle.
