3" body lift & 285/70-17 BFG ATKO
I've asked this before, but didn't get much response. Hopefully, I someone can help me.
I'm ready to install my 3" body lift, but wanted to know what you guys would think of it with 17x8 Atlas and 285/70-17 BFG ATKO wheels. Would it look too goofy? I would eventually like to get some 35" and a suspension lift down the road, but this is my only vehicle and I drive it everyday. The $2.00/gallon gas price doesn't help.
If anyone has pics of this set-up or close to it, I would appreciate it.
Also, would a 315/70-17 be too big of a tire for a 17x8 wheel? Pics of this combo would help also.
I'm ready to spend the money, but I need your help.

I live over in Eastgate. I got the truck with the lift on it from Beachmont Ford. I got a heck of a deal on the thing cause I got a rookie salesman and I think that they were just trying to get him a sale. I will take some pics with my cell phone and get them to you in the next couple of days.

I just recently put a 3" lift and 285\70\17 tires on my truck. Originally wanted to go to a 315\70\17 tire but they won't work on a factory 7.5 " wheel.
Heres a pic.

From what I have been reading the 305/70/17 and thr 285/75/17 are the same heigth. The only difference is the width. Now I did not think this was right, so I found a tire conversion chart on the internet. After working out the demisions the long way on paper and then using the conversion calculator on the internet I found out it was true. Here is the way to calculate by hand so that you can try it out yourself.
Take the first number of the metric tire and divide it by 25.4, this will give you the width.
(ex. 285 / 25.4 = 11.2)
To figure out the height you take the width and times it buy the % of the middle number, then times the answer by 2 and add 16.
(ex. 11.2 * .75 *2 + 16 = 32.84)
Again this example is for a 285 / 75 / 17

could i put 305/70/17's on my truck? I have a 2WD 1997 but with a 3 inch suspension lift. I know i've asked before if i could put 285/75/16 on my truck and Wandell (one of the smartest dudes in the whole site) said they would fit on my truck no prob! I know there's probably a considerable difference in price, and because they're much bigger, they're probably heavier, so power would be less, i assume? But anyways, would 305's fit on a 2WD lifted truck? And, what numbers do you need to look at when buying rims like on EBAY. Do they need to be a specific number to fit the tire size of 285's or 305's. I think i'm thinking like width, not height? THanks for the help everyone - hope this all makes sense!
