Question Need Pics of 285/70-17 BFG and 3" lift

Anyone have pics of 285/70-17 BFG ATKO with a 3" lift.

Will these tires look too small with a 3" lift?

This is close. I have 285/75-16 BFG AT KO's on 16x10 Eagle Alloys with 4 1/2 inches of backspacing.

Your truck looks great!

What's your opinion on going with a 305/70-17 instead of the 285's? Or would I be better off just sticking with the 285's on 17x9 wheels? I rarely (pratically never) never get offroad.

By going with the 285's and 17x9 wheels, could I get by without the 3" lift for now without any problems or mods to the truck?

Could I do the same with 305's?

Did you notice any problems witht the ProComps 33/12.5-17? Such as handling, rubbing, noice, decrease performance, etc?

No problem at all with 33's even before the lift. With such an aggressive tread I thought they would be loud, very quite for a mud terrain. Very little loss in performance, gas mileage decreased some.

Yes, 305/70-17's (34x12.50) or 33x12.50-17's would look even better than the 285's. The only reason I didn't go with 305/70-16's (33x12.50) is because BFG didn't make that size in 2001. Also, you can run the 285/70-17's on 17x9 inch rims without a lift. Here's a pic of my Screw with 285's on 16x10's at stock height. All I had to do was trim about 1/2 inch of plastic off the front bumper's lower valance.

Wandell,

Thanks for the input.

I've narrowed my choice down a little bit more with your info. One final question (hopefully).

In your opinion, which would look better? Keep in mind, I'm on a budget and want to get by with the least amount of adjustments to the truck.

1) 285/70-17 BFG AT on stock rims for now, then with 17x9 American Alloy 102 wheels and a 3" PA lift later.

2) 305/70-17 not sure of tire, since BFG doesn't make this size, on stock wheels for now with 3" PA lift, then 17x9 American Alloy 102 wheels later

2) 315/70-17 BFG AT on stock rims and 3" lift now, then 17x9 American Alloy 102 wheels later.

I know it comes down to my choice, but you seem to really know what your talking about and I don't want to spend the money on something I'm not sure of. I've been looking all over this site for trucks with various combos, but it gets some what confusing.

Thanks...

I have 285/70R17 on a stock FX4. Pics at WWW below. I think they are the perfect looking size for stock suspension. I would go for a larger tire with a 3" lift, 305/70 or 315/70.

If you are gonna lift the truck, I would get 33x12.50-17's, 305/70-17's or 315/70-17's and run them on the stock rims for now and add the 17x9's later. One thing to consider is your powertrain. A lot of people are running 35's with a 5.4 and 3.55 gears. Some are happy with the performance, some want to regear. If you have a 5.4 and 3.73 gear's, I'd go with the 34's or 35's. If you have a 5.4 and 3.55's, I'd go with 33's or 34's. If you have a 4.6, I'd stick with 33's.

Wandel,

Thanks again!

What is a good performing and looking AT that comes in 33/12.5-17 and 305/70-17. I know BFG makes it for the 315/70-17. I'm wanting that aggresseive look as in a MT and a little wider than my stock 265/70-17 GDY ATS, but not wanting to get a MT. However, I've been reading good things about the Pro Comp MT. Are they any good?

In a nut shell, I'm wanting an aggressive looking AT tire, that would look good with a 3" lift and not cause a bunch of changes to the truck performance.

I was in the same boat, wanted a nice looking tire like the BFG AT in a 33". I thought the Procomp AT looked less aggressive, even though they make the size you and I wanted. I went with the PC MT when 4wheelparts had the free shipping and 4 for the price of three and havent regreted it. I think the best looking tires out are BFG AT's and MT's, Procomp MT's, and Goodyear MTR's.

Keep us posted on what you decide!

You might want to check out the Mickey Thompsom Baja Radial MTX and the **** Cepek Radial FC II. Both are available in 33x12.50-17. So far the only tire I know of that comes in a 305/70-17 (34x12.50) is the Goodyear Wrangler MTR.

I would stick with the 285 on the 17's. BFG makes a tire in that size. You would have to go 16" for a 305 to get the BFG.

If you go 305 or bigger you may have to get new gears, etc then the price starts adding up.

I go off road for camping etc and I decided to go with 285 BFGs on the sotck 17" rims. Saves me money and most important I can fit in parking garages and my own garage.

Used to have a jacked up 4x4 with 38" 15 wides tires and this truck goes more places than that truck did. Its now how big but how well designed, etc. (unless your driving on sand thens its all about the width)
