peeling wheels?

I have some american racing wheels that are about 7 years old. They have the clear coat(?) over the aluminum. Around the lug nuts the coating has peeled away slightly in some areas allowing brake dust underneath. I have had to peel awy small sections to get the black out. I can see that this situation will continue in the future. My question is what will happen to the alluminum that is exposed? Will I be able to maintain it? What should I do differently? As of now I just use soap and water. Thank you.

best bet is to have them polished. You can use paint stripper to remove the rest of the clearcoat...
