Rear Rotor Removal

I have a 2000 F150 and am trying to get the rear rotors off but the emergency brake shoes are holding them on, I hammered on 1 for over an hour, is there anyway to adjust the shoes in with the rotor on so I can get it off?

Thanks,

bb

Yes, there is a slot in the bottom of the backing plate that allows you to stick in a brake adjusting tool (or a screw driver) to adjust the shoes. It should have a rubber plug in the slot to keep out crud.

Huh?

If you are removing rear ROTORS, there is no backing plate. Rear DRUMS would have a backing plate. Discs have no such thing.

Are the pads hanging on the edge of the rotor? Are they worn out? If you are replacing the pads, just stick a pry bar in between the caliper and the rotor and pry away. If you destroy the pads, so what.

Once you get the caliper off, you can then rotate the pistons to back them off.

Have fun.

Been there, done that.

on the 2000 the emergency brake is actually a drum inside the rotor with shoes just like drum brakes only smaller, because I don't use the emergency brake very often it is rusted inside the drum of the rotor so I can't get the rotor off, I was looking for a way to adjust the emergency brake in with the rotor still on so I could get it off.

I just put on new rear pads and had the rotors resurfaced, so I know what I am talking about. My truck is a 2000 F150 Supercab 4x4 with 4 wheel disc brakes. There is a backing plate with the slot for adjusting the brake shoes that are used for the emergency brake.

I also had to pull the right side axle and replace the axle seal.

get a few prybars and screw drivers get them in there alittle bit give it some taps with the hammer and wiggle the prybars and screw drivers it takes alittle paitance but it will wiggle off have to kind of wiggle it straight off. there is a chance that this could seperate the shoe lining from the shoe but ussually it is already like that if its as bad as you say it is in there.
