You may have to crank up your torsion bars and trim a little plastic off the front bumper's lower plastic valance if you go with 305/70-17's (34x12.50). You will be able to fit 285/70-17's (33x11.50) easily. I have never seen a 285/75-17.

I just put 315/70/17 BFG A/T's on my 00 F-150 4x4. I haven't twisted the torsion bars yet but I am going in a few weeks. I just had to trim a little of the plastic on the bumper, now I have decent clearance. Not enough for off-roading but enough for riding down the road. The best part is that I only paid 300 for them with only 7000 miles and they look brand new.

re

see i was thinking maybe the 305 were alittle to big. i do go off-road some, pull trailers, and whatever else. wandell how much was it for your lift, and where did you get it? really the only tire sizes i can find are 265/70 witch are stock on mine. 285/70 in a ats goodyear and in a bfgoody that cost alittle to much but i might have to go that route, and then the rest are either 305s or 315s . i really would like the 285s

You can pick up the Performance Accessories body lift about anywhere for $130- $160 online. My brother in law owns a truck accessory shop and sold me mine at cost. You might also want to also take a look at the Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX and the **** Cepek Fun Country II, they are both available in 33x12.50-17.

It took me a full weekend, basically working by myself.

Take another look at the 315/70/17s. For some reason, that one size from BFG is priced lower than all the other plus sized tires. They can be had new for $125 each, Or you can try what I did. I got four take-offs from a Hummer dealer (H2 factory tire) near Dallas for $300. Brand new, less than a couple hundred miles on them. Cranked the torsion bars about half way (to keep the stress level on the CVs down,) trimmed a little off the air dam, and good to go. I've towed my Jeep on a trailer, and a bass boat on a regular basis without a problem. The only rubbing I get is at full steering lock, rubs the frame a bit, or if I get crossed up real good out at the deer lease. Other than that, no problems.

I've got the PA body lift in the garage just waiting for an open Saturday, and 17 x 10 wheels on order for when it's done.

Go with what makes you happy, don't let us make the decision for you. All I'm saying is that you can find the 315/70/17 (Not the 305/70/17) for less than the 285s you're looking at.

Personally, I wanted big tires. If you like the way 285s look better, go with those.

You WILL have rubbing with the 315's, MIGHT have rubbing with the 305's, SHOULDN'T have rubbing with the 285's.

You probably will have to crank the t-bars a little with the 285's. I cranked my t-bars (made the truck even before the tires so I wouldn't have to pay for 2 alignments) so my 305's would fit. No problems with them rubbing EVER. If the 315's are any bigger than my 305's were then you WILL have rubbing issues. I bet I had a quarter of an inch gap between the tire and airdam.

Keep in mind, larger tires are harder on the suspension and gas mileage gets worse as the tire gets larger (yes, even after you correct the speedometer). I currently see about 13 MPG's and I keep my foot out of it.

Forgot to mention, 285's are the largest tire you SHOULD put on a 7.5" wide rim. Some shops may put the 305 on (mine did), but I don't know if they would put the 315's on.

Discount mounted the 315s for me with no problem. For the time being, and until I get the 17 x 10s in, it'll have to do. Other than that, Toolman's right on the money.

I have 285/70R17 BFG All-Terrains mounted on the stock rims. No cranking of the torsion bars were required and I have no rubbing. And in my opinion, they look great on the truck.

I went into the local desert rat to order some 285/65R-18's and the guy was ready to sell me some 35-12.50-18 BFG mud terrains for my stock wheels 7.5-18, he had an 04 on the rack he was doing the same thing too. I would guess the 315/70r-17's are so cheap because they are the stock tire for hummers and they are producing alot more of them, you might notice they seem to be about the only size BFG AT that doesnt have raised white letters.
