Wheel and Tire nightmare
Everything started with a 3" body lift and 4" suspension lift to make space for BFG's new 37's mounted on Mickey Thompson's 17x9 Classic II wheels. I had to deviate from the original project to just the 3" body lift and leave the suspension lift until next year. So, that called for different tires.
First, I was trying to stay with the 17" new Classic II rims (with Mickey Thompson's Baja Belted HP in the 35x12.5/17) but they have been trying to release those (rims) forever and I do not have too much time since my tires are down to the bone. As a matter of fact one of the tires past away last month and I was forced to buy an used one. And we have a distributor here in PR for the MT's but got me waiting to place the order since august. Another change, got to get other wheels. The search and the dilema continue to decide if going with 16", 16.5" or 17". Trying to stay in the 17" family to keep the wheels and used them with the 37's when finishing the suspension lift next year. But not now.
Try another distributor, this is the BFG distributor for PR and they were very nice to me but no results. This was another long story that I will not explain.
So after trying to do business with our people here in PR I decided to call 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers and get 4 35x12.5R16.5 BFG KO's All Terrains mounted on American Eagles 589 and pay lots of shipping. To save some money I decided to use our carrier, also because they are faster (by air). After a couple of days they called me to say the wheels were back order and that we have to wait another week to get them. Finally they went out this past wednesday but for some reason they did not used my carrier. To get them back to the warehouse was going to backtrack and delay the order so I told them not to change anything else. I ask for a discount for the trouble ($100.00). Maybe that will help to match the original freigth charges but not the delivery time. They are suppose to be here on the 16 of this month. But first, I was going to have them in the first week of november.
What could happen next? Maybe the ship will go to Africa a some lions will eat the hell out of the tires. And some cheetas will try the wheels.
Remember all this search started maybe more than a year ago but I was ready to buy since almost august 2000.
All this forced me to learn a lot about many tires and rims out there. It's been interesting but the wait is killing me and it is very dangereous to use tires so worn down.

Sorry to hear about the troubles you've had. I'm having the same trying to get some 33/12.5/17's ProComp Mud Terrains without paying some outrageous shipping fee to Alaska. I've been debating on waiting till spring break to do the 3" lift.
I just got my Genuine Steel Products grille/brush guard (looks exactly like a Manik) today, and that took almost 6 weeks. But for $255.00 shipped, I can't complain.

At one point I was going to buy those to stay with a 17" rim but I was trying to get the largest that I can fit down there. I think those are great tires, Mud and All Terrain. And great price. Shipping???..., well that's another story.
Hey, where did you get that grill guard? That price is super and if it looks like the Manik that's what I am looking for in the future because right now I will be changing gears after the wheel tire installation, and that is another bunch of money.

JMTruck,
I'll probably go with the ProComp Mud Terrains; I really don't think the AT's are aggressive enough. I wish & hope BFG comes out with a 33/12.5/17's VERY SOON.
I got the GSP Grille guard from www.carparts.com and used the 33% off coupon #1963005.
Originally, I wasn't going to do the lift and instead buy the grille guard. By then it was too late and the grille guard had already shipped. I remember talking to another 150 member who had the 3" lift and Manik (frame mounted). So I figure I might have to make some custom backets to fit with the lift. Overall, the GPS grille guard looks very nice (no nicks or dents) and was well packaged.
By the way, I just found out last month that my truck did not come with a limited slip. So now I'm alittle bummed.

Remember the first part of the story?
Well, yesterday, monday the 13th I called the other carrier to get information on how the shipment was doing. Great news, the ship was here and I would be able to pick up the tires on tuesday afternoon or maybe wednesday morning. WHAT TIRES??????
After reviewing by phone the paperwork we found out that the bill of lading was incorrect. It described what it seems to be some metal brackets or whatever but no tires. Since I have to pay the taxes first and the carrier already submitted the papers in order for them to release the shipment to me, we got stuck with no matching BOL at the taxes offices. This is not supposed to happen but here we go again with The Peter Principle.
Anyway, I am going to make this one short. You can not imagine what did I have to do to get this straight. Took me the whole day, and I am paying today since the cashier was already closed, but I think I will be able to get my tires, finally either today or tomorrow wednesday if everything is OK. After all this I feel I can overcome anything. So, give me more.

Well, they were supposed to come as hub centric wheels. They did not. Now I am gathering information from 4WPW and American Eagle (as soon as I can contact them) regarding this spec. Tires are running great but I will give them a couple of aditional days as a test. It seems that the bolt pattern is able to center the wheel. We'll see, I have a long trip tomorrow thursday.

Well, I have to admit that I almost killed someone at the Freight company when I got there and they told me those were not the papers. I was just coming in from the Government Tax offices and they told me everything was OK. The rest of the time was by phone making it difficult to break someone's neck.
Yesterday I completed a 150 miles trip and the tires felt very good. Excelent handling. But I will be calling American Eagle today to double check the info received from 4WPW that those wheels are going to work OK, that I was supposed to received those, and that this lug centrics are going to work fine in our hub centric rotors.
I will keep you informed.

JMTruck,
I just read where you wanted to do a 3" body and 4" susp to fit 37's with 17" rims...Well I also see that you bought 16.5" rims...I just wanted to let you know, if the 37's are still in your plans, some dude on Ebay is constantly selling sets of the 37x12.50R16.5 Hummer tires for only like $200-$300.00 a set. Just thought I'd let you know, because it sounds like a great deal if that's the size you want.

Sounds interesting. Never been there. I think I will go and pay a visit tonight. May be a good purchase when the suspension lift is done and the space is there and if I stay with 16.5's.
