Correct Stud Size for 1999 F150 4x2

Hello -
I've researched on this formum regarding wheel size and inset for my 1999 F150 4x2 work truck with 4.6L Triton V8. All info led me to believe I have 12mm inset studs. I pulled off a center cap and see that the steel wheels on my truck are 16x7J 14mm inset.

How can I verify the actual inset of the studs? I am looking to buy a set of used wheels from a 1999 Expedition and need to be sure they will fit. I understand that a 14mm inset wheel will work on a 12mm inset hub, but not vice versa.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

I got a 2001 and took rims/tires off a expedtion 99, lugs were 14mm 1.5 thread pitch, my F150 are 14mm 2.0 thread pitch. I had a very hard time verifying the thread pitch and then finding someone with lugs that size.

Ford never made that size. Only 12mmx1.75 and 14mmx2.0. The way to tell what size studs you have is to look at the build date of your truck. I wanna say if it was made before Nov99 then its 12mm studs, after that and they're 14mm studs, but I'm not 100% on the dates. There is this really cool button at the top of the screen called "search". I'd try doing a search on here, this has been discussed many many times.

Hi Jeff,

Take a 12mm and 14mm closed wrench and put it over the studs. You'll know right away.
I have 1999 4x4 and it has 12mm studs

The 2000 models and up have 14mm studs.

All the rims say they have 14mm insets. In actual fact, I measured a 2000 rim and the hole radious is actually 15mm giving a circumference of abou 6.5 mm more than a 14mm inset.

The 14mm insets on my 1999 rims are exactly 14mm in diameter.

A difference of 1mm in diameter should not make any difference. The mounting holes are exactly the same size. I'm eventually going to mount the 2000 wheels with my summer tires and try and find a lug nut with a larger seat just to be safe.

Dammed if I can find these lug nuts though!

Wolly
