Gee, there's a source with some sound science. I don't mean to poop in your cheerios, but did you happen to see the article on the Fitch Fuel Catalyst they ran last month? I you believe everything you read in either of those magazines, I've got a hell of a deal on this bridge...

I tend to believe that siping is a good thing on certain tires. I got the last set of BFG mud terrains siped, and they gripped rocks better, and seemed to last forever. The theory behind the lower running temps is that the tread can flex easier, and not be trying to stretch the entire tread block. The better traction and braking are obveous, more exposed edge to grip. I did notice that a smaller siped block would get broken off from time to time. I think next time I'll have them sipe the center tread blocks only, and not within 1/4" of the leading or trailing edge of the blocks.

Sipeing is ILLEGAL in Virginia. No shop offers it, but there are some "backyard mechanics" that will do it for $20 a tire!!! I dont know if its good or bad, but can imagine that a razorblade and tires could ever make a good thing together.
