How many PSI for my new tires?

I just upgraded my tires to Nitto Terra Grappler 265 75 16's (D load rated, not E)

They put 40 PSI all around at Discount Tires. Is that a good pressure? Max says 65PSI.

They are on My 2wd 2001 SCREW. I tow my boat now and then, and go to my Deer lease, but am mainly on the street/highway. The old 255 70 16's said 30 front 35 back.

Or should I do the chalk test?

tire pressure

every manufacturer recommends a specific air pressure for each vehicle. this is usually posted on a placard inside the driver's door (open the door, and look at the posts), and should be listed in the owner's manual. also, any decent tire shop should have a fitment guide with this information.

entropic2,

That placard is useless now.It is written for the Factory tires. I went from a P255 70 16 load C to a LT265 75 16 Load D....2 different animals altogether.
