Question Want bigger tires..can I?

Ive got some questions for anyone that can help please

4x4

Can i put replace my 265 70 17s with 285s without getting new rims? will i have to do any cutting? what about 275s?

Try this:
Yes, no and yes.
Yes, 285s will fit. No, you won't have to do any cutting. Yes, 275s will work, too.
I'd go with the 285s, though, they really fill up these wheel wells.

I have 285/70R17 BFG AT and really noticed acceleration and fuel mileage penalties. I don't think I would try them with a 4.6L and probalby a 3.55 gear.

Mine still feels okay with a 4.6 and 3.55s with the 285s. It feels like it runs as good as it ever has, but I have noticed a little mileage lost.

I have the 5.4L with 3.73 gears and the transmission has trouble keeping the torque converter locked up on the highway, at least compared to my last truck with 265/70R17 tires and same drivetrain. It only gets worse while towing. Gas mileage is about 3mpg less than the last truck too.
