Unhappy ABS light

Hello All:

Have a few questions,My Abs Light came on last week ,I took it to the Ford Dealer And they Diagnostied it as My 4Wheel drive ABS Module and Pump. They say this pump cost $1069.00 just for the pump and will cost about $1500.00 for the entire fix. Can this be right and should I get a second opinion?I have a 2000 Ford F150 EX cab 4x4.Have 36400 Miles on it .

Thank you Fhem

The price for just the parts sounds expensive. List on it is $304 for the HCU, and $385 for the module. (I suspect you should be able to re-use the old bracket) I talked to a buddy in the parts dept at the dealer I used to work at, and he told me that they replace those two units in pairs because if one goes bad, it typically zaps the other one. He told me that he had a guy a couple weeks ago that came in and bought just the module and it fixed it for a whole two weeks, at which point the bad HCU zapped the new module. Needless to say, he had to buy a new HCU as well as a second module.

It's replacing the hydraulic control unit that's a pain in the rear. The labor to install it sounds about right... there's 5 brake lines that need to be disconnected (which may or may not happen nicely), and the whole system has to be re-bled (all four corners). 3-4 hours of labor would be about right IMHO. Assuming you can bleed the brakes, it may be worth it to do it yourself and save 1/2 the cost.

Let us know how it works out.
