When to get brakes looked at and replaced?

I just bought a 2001 4x4 Supercrew. It has about 65K on it and about 2 days ago the brakes started squeaking. I have heard that supercrews go thru brakes faster (due to the extra weight). Should I go-ahead and get them looked at and replaced if nec.?
I have a guy who I trust so that is not a problem.

brake advice

Definitley let your buddy check them out. If they havent been changed, Id be suprised. If there is such a thing as "average life" on f-150 brakes Id put it at 50-60,000 miles. Also, count on a couple new rotors if they havent been changed. Ive yet to see a 4x4 with over 40,00 miles that you didnt have to practically destroy the rotors to get them off. They rust to the hub pretty badly. Ive had to cut some off with a torch! Anyway, just be sure to use a good ceramic pad, raybestos seems best in my experience, If youre an Auto-Zone shopper, try to get the Morse ceramics for a little less money, Pads and rotors shouldnt run ya more than 95-110.00 . Hope that helps. I manage a meineke, and still turn the wrench 40 hours a week. lol
