Question 16x8 on 255-70-r16 ?

im getting new tires because of the firestone recall, and im thinking of buying new wheels too, the OEM rims are a 16x7 wearing 255 70 16 wilderness AT
so i want to get a 16x8 chrome set with 255-70-16 Michelins

would be this possible?
what offset should i look for?

I don't know about the offset, and I don't know much about the recall, other then what I have "heard", but I would get a larger tire with a 8" wide wheel. The 255/70 is small on the 7" wheel! I've "heard" that you can get any size tire you want. It's just that Ford will only reimburse you for a certian amount, so if the replacement tires you get cost more then Ford is willing to pay, you just have to pay the difference. Not a bad deal, really. You get the tire and size you want, and only have to pay a fraction of the full price of those tires. Since you are willing to pop for new wheels anyway, might as well just go for it all. I'd get nothing less then a 265/75/16. I replaced my 235/70 with the 255/70, but they were too small too. One month later I traded them in for the 265/75 I've got now. Had to "eat" some on the trade, but I'm much happier with the 265's. I still have the stock 16x7 steel wheel for now.

my truck came stock with 235/70/16. looked silly on the truck (4x4). i switched to 16x8 rims and 265/70/16's. they were a good chunk cheaper than the 265/75/16 tires i was considering.

i have clocked my speed against those radar trailers the police use to 'slow down' vehicles and my speedo is right on the money now.

they fill the well nicely and the truck now looks well balanced. from what i understand these tires would have fit the stock rims also, but i felt better with the 16 x 8's.

Cool

I just installed 256/70R16 Mich Pilots on my truck for the summer. I also run 16x8 rims. Billycouldride is right, they look good and are well balanced. The diameter of the tire is very close to stock as well, no speedo worries.

If you're going to get Ford to pay for them I believe they are still making you choose from the approved tire list they have. If you had bought them before May 22 you didn't have to worry about the list but since you haven't gotten them yet you will have to pick a tire off the list. From what I've heard the list keeps getting widened so I guess if you don't see what you want on it now just wait. Also I don't know how they are going to handle getting different size tires as replacements.
