Yes, you can be reimbursed. The form to fill out is on the page listed above. You can download it and submit it and they will reimburse you the amount up to the listed amounts per tire. If it cost you more, you're SOL.

Also, My guess is that they couldn't get a good enough deal on the ATS's to do them for the price they wanted. Don't really know for sure, though.

I think Ford needs to share some of the blame as I don't believe it is a tire only problem. Sure, the tires are not as good as other brands but I had Wilderness tires on my big Suburban until I replaced the wheels and tires. And I've seen them on Chevy trucks. Granted more have been put on Ford Explorers than anything else, but you don't hear of other brands having blowouts, people being ijured or killed. I just think 2 less than great designs came together and caused the problem.

Don't get me wrong as I'm not taking Firestones side but I don't blame them for dumping Ford since Ford refuses to accept any blame.

However, in the end, Ford looks good for doing something and Firestone will suffer from poor product and evern worse PR.

I was told you do not have to go back with Firestones. You can choose from 3 diffrent tires. I'm going to pay the extra and get a set of Michlein LTX/AT's. I know there is no problem with those. You actually get a tire buy back cost.

WOO HOO!!!!! YES, I just called that 1-800 number and they were really helpful I might add, but they said that since my truck had the Wilderness AT tires on it when I got it and I bought my new tires after the original August 1st recall I qualified for a refund. They told me that I had to fill out the refund form and send the original reciept (sp?) in and in 6 to 8 weeks (long time but oh well) I should be getting a check in the mail for my tires. So I get about $500 and I keep the old wilderness tires. They were'nt in that bad of shape and since I'm running 285/75s on my truck and the spare is a 235/75 General I might take the best Firestone and put it on the spare rim.

My 2 cents worth

If you're gonna stroke it, POWERSTROKE IT!!!

The wilderness AT's have blown out on other vehicles. The news has only reported about the explorers because the numbers are so high.

But, I want to replace the Goodyear's that is on it now for soemthing better and a nice check from Ford would help. Oh, well, lucky in some repects, not in others. Hope everything works out for all you guys.

I wonder if I'll get a letter from FORD this year saying that my Goodyears are not part of the Firestone recaal like I did last year right after the big recall took place.

Powerstroke73,
I looked on ford's website and 97' F150 are not, listed on the vehicles for tire replacement. They really didn't give you any hassle about your tires? I just got some new tires back in March on my 97' Expy, but I changed rims and went with bigger tires. Just wondering if I would have any trouble getting reimbursed for my tires because 97' Expy's aren't listed on the recall list, but neither was 97' F150's.

Well thats actually why I called the 800 number, because I didn't see a 97 F-series listed. They are accepted though. There is a catch though. When you bought the truck it had to have the Wilderness ATs on them, and you had to have bought your new tires AFTER the August 1st recall. If you bought your tires before the original recall came out you are SOL. You also must have proof that your truck had the Wilderness ATs were on it when you bought it and you must send the ORGINAL reciept for your replacement tires in for the refund along with the refund form. I asked them if I could send in a copy of the reciept, but they said it had to be the original.

See, there's the catch I was trying to get at! My truck did NOT come with AT's when it was purchased. It had the General Ameri- whatevers on it. The AT's were purchased for winter use, and then as full time replacements after the generals were worn down. So, now does Ford replace them? I purchased them many years ago as replacements, and I did not have them as the originals. I have not had a chance to call in, but will do so soon. Some sources have siad they will replace them regardless, others say no. Either way, the tires are coming off the truck soon.
