Question Biggest tire I can put on my truck

I own a 1997 F-150 4x4 off road truck with standard 16 in rims. The tires I have on there now are 255/70R. I wanted to know what would be the biggest tire I could put on my truck without adding a lift kit? Any help to my question would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jody

285/75/16 you might need to adjust your torsion bars though.

I have the exact truck (year, stock tiresize, etc) and could not fit 33X12.50R16.5 BFG All-Terrains on Eagle Alloy's 16.5X9.75" Series 1439's on my truck without adding a 3" body-lift. The 285's which are pretty much the same as 33X12.50's might fit if they are put on the factory 7" or an aftermarket 8" rim, but I think the tire looks funny on that skinny of a rim. The PA 3" body lift is cheap, pretty easy to put on, and looks really good with the 33X12.50's on a 10" rim - just my opinion. Hope this helps.
