Post 285/75/ 16 T/A KO's on 16x7 stock rims??????

Howdy folks,

I hope I am not whippin a dead horse here, but. I went to the bf goodrich web site and they say the 275's are o.k on the 7" rims but the 285's should go on 8" ers????

I would like to go with the 285's. IS IT SAFE???? What are the potential downsides?(if any) Do the 285's fit "correctly" on the 7" rims? Any reason why the 8" are suggested?

Any info from those with experience would be welcomed. This is my first set on new tires for my '98 F-150 4x4. The original Wrangler RT/S's are killing me. Looked at Pirelli and Goodrich. I feel the T/A KO's are the way to go.

Thanks much,
Bob

P.S.
This is my first post here. Seems like a wealth of knowlege floating around!

HEY PARTNER, YOU DIDN'T SAY WHAT YOUR TRUCK IS OR IF ANY LIFT, BUT AS THE MANAGER OF A BIG O TIRE STORE, I SUBMIT TO YOU THAT THERE IS NOPROBLEM WITH THE 285'S ON A FACTORY WHEEL. JUST DON'T RUN TOO MUCH PRESSURE IN THEM SO IT WON'T WEAR DOWN THE CENTER. AS FOR YOUR CHOICE OF TIRE, THERE ARE BETTER ALTERNATIVES, THE BFG M/T TO BE MORE SPECIFIC. I'V GOT 12,000 MILES ON MINE AND ONLY USED 2 OF 21/32'S OF TREAD. TRY THEM YOU'LL LOVE THEM.

No problem. I've had them on my new rig since I drove it off the dealers lot and straight to the tire shop. Got 6000 miles on them now and everything is just fine.

Bad_Fordx4,

Thanks for the reply. Yep, I mentioned my truck, '98 F-150 4x4 SC. No Lift and don't want one.

The Mud Terrains over the A/T KO's?? How are they ON road? Are they loud? How do they handle?

Tire pressure. Will I be o.k. keeping the recommended pressure or do I need to go under?

Thanks again.
