Thumbs down Whats up with this?

I went to NTB to get some new tires for my truck and they wouldn't sell them to me.I've got LT245/75/R16.I wanted to get BFG's 285/75/16.The salesman wouldn't sell them to me because I've got antilock brakes and the different tire size would void any warranty.I laughed and went to Sears and and got them put on plus chrome stems, lifetime balance, and I bought the road hazard insurance for $697.00 installed. They make the truck look totally different a lot meaner tires are much bigger than stock.BTW I called my dealer and they have never heard of such a thing.Oh well NTB's loss they could of made $700.00.

Red face

That's odd because Sears owns NTB if I remember correctly.

Barlitz,

I've got a LD as well. Did you put the 285's on the stock rims? If you did, could you post a pic? I'm looking to put some studded 265's or 285's on the stock 7 hole rims for winter, but was curious how or they would look.

jupiterak,I've got the stock chrome rims on my truck and they look awesome with the tires,I thought they were just chrome wheel inserts but they are actually chrome rims. The truck rides smooth and takes turns much nicer also lifted the truck an inch or so.The truck looks real mean now the tires almost look to big for it,but I'm loving it.I also just added the Ford factory bra on the front. My next accessories are trail master invader ss shocks along with rear black tail light guards,Hella black magic driving lamps, smitty built outland sport bumper guard in black.Any ideas on where I can get some skid plates?I did just get a digital camera I will take some pictures in the next few days and post them for ya.

Barlitz,

Ford has them. I got mine from the parts dept. If I remember correctly they were $45.00. I just got the one under the air dam. I'm sure they have one for the trans. as well. I wish I got wider tires as well; the 265's still look skinny on the truck. I might go with those Pro Comps 305/70 R17's next year. I'd still like to see a pic, because I'm checking prices for studded tires now for the winter.

Jupiterak,
Do you know the Part # or anything?

Also Is that Poly (plastic) ?
I've already noticed nicks and scratches in the Wax on the frame cause mine didn't have any skidplate.
ALso I'm guessing you have to remove for oil change, How hard and how many bolts?
thanks ( i'm going by the dealer in a couple days anyway)

Regulator,

Sorry, I cant find the receipt or part #. Just go into the parts dept. and they should know what you're talking about.

It's steel, but I pjainted with some flat black paint with the rust protection.

You can still get to the oil filter on the side and rear.

The skid plate doesn't come with mounting bolts. I just got some stainless ones at the hardware store. The had to mount the bolts backwards with the nut on the outside (look at the bottom of the plate; you'll see the nut). Because there is NO room to hold the nut inside the frame. Take a look at yours and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Hey guys,

Sounds like we all have very similar trucks. I just put the BFG 285/75/16's on my truck and am noticing a vibration up front. Also I have been fighting a vibration problem that occurs between 40-50mph do or did either have any experience with this? I love this truck but the vib is really killing me

I will try to post pics

Barlitz,

When you go online to photo websites like www.zing.com or www.photopoint.com
It will ask you to "easy upload." After that, you'll come to "choose files to upload" click Browse. Then search for the pics in the folder you saved them in. I use photopoint, because it's pretty easy. good luck.

Did someone mention cow-catchers?????

Pep-boys has a really good deal on these.

They look just like the ones that run $500+/parts only and are $319./installed.

Something - horse is the brand iron-horse???

Anyways, tires... I've got a wimpy 2.5/2" lift on my 2x4

Hmmm... I'll prolly do BFG TA 285/75/16's because.... 33" tall, 10.9" wide on stock rims, 17/32" treads new, Made by Michelin.
