FOR THE MONEY: FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT III's
I had BFG's on another truck, (the older style, before the KO's) and now with the Firestones on my F150 I found out that they handle just as good, wet or dry, and they also have a rim protector. IMHO I think that the Firestones are a better looking tire. My truck has a 4.6 engine (superchipped) and with the 3.55 gears I could spin the OEM Goodyears at will. Now I just got my 4.10 gears installed and its hard to spin the Firestones because they have a very good grip. The Firestones have a better warranty and the dealers are allowed to lower the price. I picked mine up on sale at 105.00 each for 285-75-16's. I hope this helps.

Y2K....I had them on my 4x4 reg cab ranger and they were AWESOME but.......what you really need is more weight over the rear axle. A tip....I used to go to the scrap yard every winter and get a 1/2 inch plate of steel the length of my box and fitting just inside the wheelwells..WAY better in snow...ice is tricky for anything short of a tank. An added bonus...you can sell the plate back to the scrapyard in the spring (for a profit if metal prices have gone up) hope this helps CHEERS

Pat:
I just came back from the Firestone dealer, they still are having a sale and the Wilderness AT III' in size 285-75-16 just dropped a couple of bucks, they are going for 103.00 apiece. Damn good looking/performing tire. The price for 33-12.50-16.5 is also 103.00 They have a 50,000 mile warranty, a replacement warranty, not a prorated one. 4 tires for 412.00 ? sounds good to me...

Cool

THANKS to all who have replied and if there are any more suggestions/opinions out there, keep them commin'.

Getting off the subject for a moment, does anyone know, or has anyone had any experience with the new Bridgestone Mud-Terrains. Not sure of the model #. They are the only Bridgestone M/T tire featured on tirerack.com.

THANKS again!!!

Pat,

I've got the Bridgestone Dueler MT's in 285/75/16 on 16 x 10 rims. I don't do much snow driving, but for mud they're great! This is my first 4wd, and I use it for mud and desert; I didn't plan to use it as a commuter, though I've done it anyway a few times. Handles well on the street and freeway--a vast improvement over the gunboat-handling stock tire. I'm used to a 3" lowered T-bird SC, and I'm not real patient with a 'truck-like handling' truck, but this tire/wheel combo is pretty good. I didn't know what to expect noise-wise, but it's easily acceptable at highway speeds (a deep rumble that isn't very noticable after a short while)--I just turn up the tunes. With a later addition of Flowmasters, the truck is quite loud, but not so much that my wife minds a freeway drive, and she's not tolerant of vehicle noise at all.
