Question 285/75/16 on stock 2X4

Friends,

My brother in-law and I have been toying with the idea of upgrading tires for that stout look. A local tire shop advised us that we cannot go higher than a 265/75/16 LT from a 255/70/16 w/o mod.
Any thoughts? Want 285/75/16 LT.

If tire upgrd ok. What is +/- on actual speed?

Thanks in advance

Well he is right and wrong....I have seen a stock 4x2 with the 285s and not rub at all...then I have heard some of the other members do it and it rubs..So I guess I am trying to say it depends on the truck...If you dont plan on lifting the truck, go with the 265s....They look great on the 4x2s...DAVE

I agree, 265's are a good fit on the 4x2's. 285's just look strange on a stock 4x2, almost no room in the wheel wells.

265's will defineately fit, however they don't look big enough to me. I now have had 2 sets of 285's on my 4x2 non lifted truck and there isn't any rubbing at all. Unfortunately I don't have pictures yet, but I will soon. My profile should inform you of details on the new set off tires installed last week and I like them alot

TJohnston,

If I went ahead w/the 285's would I require a higher rear-end as well? Will the 3.55:1 be able to turn them w/o noticeable diff to stock 255's? Please advise.
