Wide Tires
NO, the width of the tires has nothing to do with speed or acceleration. in that what you haft to look for is the taller you go on tire size the slower you are. The shorter you go the faster you are.

Well It depends on weather the wide tires weigh more than the stockers. If they do then they will slow you down. More weight the slower. Also the Added friction will affect the power. Kinda like airing down the tires. Bigger contact patch = more friction and slower truck. Now all of this stuff is probably minor compared to the difference a taller tire makes.

Until I try to launch...lol!!!
Seriously, if the circumference stays the same, you will have no problem. If you are drag racing or serious road racing, rolling resistance and unsprung weight are things to consider.
Everyone here has very good points, and it seems once again we have to look at a compromise.
In my case, I am willing to take on a little more unsprung weight, because I cannot get any traction. I would actually be better off launching at idle, and then hammering it.
Once tires get loose, they tend to stay loose...and that goes for the twisties too!
