glad to see i'm not the only one that hates the RT/S. The tread is coming off one of my tires, and I have already ruined one other that Goodyear would not warranty. Plus, they have worn funny. I went to the local tire care center to get my tires re-rotated (even though I already do it every 5k) because of vibration in my steering wheel. They told me they could not fix it....it was those stinkin' Goodyears.

I am leary of Goodyear all-together. I will never buy another set of RT/S, and probably never buy another set of Goodyears period.

Note: the BFG AT's are made in 265/70/17!!!!

Is every one aware that a good year dealer HAS to take care of a defective tire IE pro rate it replace it , what ever it take to fix the problem, DIscount tire will fix the problem they are a good year dealer. my at/s work great but if they didn't i would get them to replace them also the dealer usauly give you credit for the tires discount offered me $100 each for trade in against the bfg ko's but that tire is not really differant than what i have. he said the at/s tire is a really good tire very few problems with them compare to the rt/s

SteveG and Lariat1,

How much did you pay for your AT/S and were they 17"?

Also, how many miles do you have on them?

I have the RT/S and the vump, vump, vump. Arrrrgh!!!

Get the BFG's...I have 10k on my 265/70/17's and they don't seem to have worn at all! They're sooo much better in water and snow, I hardly need 4wd in the snow now. Off road they are awesome. They're expensive, but WELL worth the $$$. As long as I own a truck, it will have BFG's on it.

What is the model # of these BFG's everyone seems to love? I'm going to be getting my truck here soon (as soon as I can decide on the options =] ). It sounds like no one likes the goodyears that come with the f150 so I might as well just put decent tires on it from the start. I will be leasing though would it be a bad idea to change the tires on a leased vehicle?

Quzax....They are the BFG all terrains. 265/70/17. They go for $160-$180/tire. Lease doesn't matter as long as it's the same size tire. I had 2 sets of goodyears (counting factory) and both were terrible in rain and in snow I was using 4wd all the time just to get moving. Not only that, but I only got about 20k out of a set. These bfg's will supposedly last 40-50k....I've even heard of guys with 70 and 80k on them! Traction is soooo much better all the way around. One of the off road mags recently compared them to bfg's mud terrain tire and said that they were very close in performance. That tells you something right there! Good luck

You mean all this time I was bragging my mighty 5.4 could 'spin the tires' it was the crappy tires and not the motor? Actually the tires don't bother me much. When it is snowy/icy, I just lock it in. When it's time for new tires, maybe one of you guys who switched at low miles will give me their old ones.

Dewayne,
Sorry for the super-late reply, but I have been in the field (work) for 45 days!!
Yes, those are 265-70-17 (same as stock). I got them at a place called Allied Tire. They were having a sale on them. (FOr once!)
Can't say enough good things about those tires so far. ESPECIALLY when the price is considered!!

Thanks Rock. I have since bought the GY LT 265/70/17 AT/S and really like them. Unlike you I got the "lowest" price of $130 each. But, I am happy with them and the traction. Plus they are more agressive looking than the RT/S junk.

By the way - you aren't in the Oilfield are you?

I had over 150,000 miles on my 4Runner before I finally flipped it. And, at least half of those miles were on BFG T/A's. I had some crappy dirt tires when I flipped, and afterward, all I could think was that it wouldn't have happened with the BFG's. I have the 17" GY AT/S's on my F150 with about 16K miles on them, and already there's chunks of rubber missing. I'm just waiting for these to wear out so I can slap on a set of BFG's.

Dewayne Fuller,
Again...sorry about the late reply, you are correct..oilfield. Drilling Project Engineer.
I just don't get to spend the time I'd like to on this site!! Lots of good info in here.
Glad to hear you like the AT/S, I really wanted to try them, but Goodyear here quoted me $145/ea!! Ouch, not much choice then, I couldn't go wrong with the Dunlops. So far so good. I DO like the look of the AT/S. Mean looking tire. How do they ride? Relatively quiet?

I got the Goodyear AT/S on my ORP. Yes, it was an upgrade on the order but well worth it I think. I haven't had these off road yet
They seemed to work pretty good in the snow that we have gotten in the past month. They are relitively quiet on the highway too.

Trading in my 98 F-150 Xtra-cab and waiting for delivery of new one.I hate the Goodyears and expect delivery with same tire. Will a tire shop take them in trade towards a set of BFG's.What are the Goodyears worth in trade? They are 17 inch.

Man....I must be the only one that got a GOOD set of RT/S's. My 97 ORP had them and I got 73k miles out of them and they stayed in-round the entire time. I agree that they suck in the wet. Always spun a tire from a stoplight. I replaced them with the AT/S's and liked them very much too. They look better and are better on and off the road. Believe it or not, I bought them from the Ford dealer for $120 apiece (yes, they sell tires now). My 99 ORP came with the AT/S's and at 20k miles there is hardly any wear. I don't think I will get 73k out of them though. I think the BFG's are overpriced on the 265/70/R17. I wonder how long it will be until someone comes out with a 285 or 295 in the 17 inch?

To mod or not to mod....that is the question!
