Rotor stuck on p-brake? - rear disc

I believe I've read all the posts concerning stuck rotors. I am trying to get the rotor off the rear passenger side on a 2001 Supercrew. I was able to loosen it with a big hammer. It is definitely off the hub as I can pull it out a quarter inch and it also moves side to side in around the lug bolts. I believe the rotor is somehow stuck on the parking brake which is on the inside of the rotor. I have detached the parking brake cable and loosened the pinwheel adjustment as far as it goes in the small access hole. I can get the rotor to pull out nearly a half inch where I removed the calipers but the sheet metal everywhere else behind the rotor prevents me from hammering from behind.

Any ideas?

Did you remove the caliber bracket ??. To remove the rotor you must remove the bracket.

Thumbs up You won't find this in the manual

I had the same problem on my '01 supercab. The parking brake levers seized and left the parking brake applied all the time. I started with the typical adjuster retraction and banging on it with a 3lb sledge and an impact hammer. I tried a torch, penetrating fluid. No luck.
The problem is that Ford is too cheap to put threaded jack screw holes in the rotor to help you remove it. On mine the rotor centerhole rusted to the axleshaft pilot and thats why it was stuck.
After about an hour and a half of screwing with it, heres what I did (kentucky engineering). I'm assuming you've already retracted the pads a lot. Jack up both rear tires. Put three of your lug nuts back on the rotor you want to loosen, 1 opposite the other two for weight balance. Don't tighten them, just leave them so they just contact the rotor. Fire up the truck and bring the back tires to about 20Mph and apply the parking brake slowly. Do it in forward and reverse. When they break loose, you'll hear a pop and the rotor rotates on the lugs. Then it should slide right off (might need a little hammer encouragement). It took 30 seconds per side and I had them both off.
Obviously, don't be a dumbass. You'll have your axle moving pretty quick and make sure your jacks are stable.
The alternative is to take it to Midas and ask for a free brake inspection and have them mess with it. They'll loosen it up, you turn down their quote and go home to do it yourself.
Some tips once you've got them off though:
1.) Remove the parking brake levers that go through the backing plate. Add lube the to pivot and to the inside of the lever boot. Be careful not to get any on the pads or the rotor though. Bosch (mfg of the parking brake assy) doesn't put enough grease in the levers and they can go dry and lock up easy like mine did.
2.) Get some copper antisieze and put it on the axleshaft mounting face and the rotor pilot. That way this won't happen again.
3.) Setting the distance across the pads to the inside diameter of the rotor is very important. Way too much clearance and your brake won't work. A little too much and you can overstress and break the springs when you apply (It won't work as well stoping forward motion). Too little and you drag.
4.) You can't buy any of the parts in you parking drum brake assy other than the pads and the rotor and the dealer or the parts stores yet (as of 1 month ago) so don't loose or break anything.

If you want more info on disassembly and reassembly, shoot me an email simmons351@f150driver.com

Enjoy!
