I had a 97 that was bad about locking up one front wheel on wet pavement. (don't remember which wheel it was, or if it was always the same wheel) I think it had more to do with the Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires than the brakes on the truck. These tires have really poor traction on wet pavement. Once I switched to BFG A/T's, it never did it again.

I have a 97 Lariat and it has done the same thing since day one. When I first begin to drive after it has been raining or very damp, I keep light pressure on the brake pedal for about 5 seconds and it is not a problem.

My 97 does this all the time when it is wet outside. Now that I'm aware of it, I just lightly apply the brake at a slow speed for 5-10 seconds to warm the brakes up and dry any moisture on them. This solves the problem always. I have asked my dealership about this and they claim it is common and nothing to worry about - it is annoying though, really doesn't make sense that we're just supposed to live with this.

I have a 1998 with rear ABS only and it will lock up both front wheels when the breaks are wet or it is hunid out. I thought it was always because my tires were half gone but even with BFG A/T's, it will do it. When I asked the dealer he stated that it happens with most of the pickups without 4wheel ABS. Only time that it can be dangerous is in the winter time and there is snow or ice on the roads.

Question

I think mine is doing the same thing, when I hit the brakes hard sometimes they feel like they catch and then release real quick.

answer to problem??

Look guys i have a way and need more input to know for sure this will cure the problem. I backed up the truck and hit the brakes HARD many times (like 5) in reverse to adjust the rear junk brakes that bearly work. I did this and the problem went away for about 500 miles or so. Try this and respond here so we can see it this really works for all our trucks.. Good liuck

On damp days mine are very touchy for the first few stopsuntil they warm up and dry (aspreviously mentioned). Does your truck have front ABS? If not they should lock up if you really mash on the brake pedal. I still have the original Wrangler AP tires on my truck and they are horrible in the rain. Some tires with better wet weather traction ratings will help some.

Backing up and jabbing the brakes only adjusts the rear brakes so much. If you adjust them manually you'll get better resullts that last longer. And even then you'll still have to do the same every so often.

Good luck, I hope this helps some.
