Best tire size for my Expy
Best tire size for my Expy
2000 Expy 5.4l, 4X4, 3.55 LS
Time for new tread
I have decided on Michelin LTX M/S but what size?
Door placard calls for P255/70R16
Bought truck used, came with LT 265/75R16 LR E (teeth rattler)
The 265's fill out the wheel opening a bit better, however I am looking for optimal fuel economy since it is my work commuter.
When I take the Expy out to play it hauls a family of 4 and a ATV flatbed trailer and 4 quads. Appx 3500 lbs.
Feels a bit sluggish off the line with the 265/75's. That taller tire really lowers your "effective" rear end ratio.
In the end going for performance not appearance.

The Michelins shouldn't rattle your teeth. I just put on BFG 285/70/17's sizing up from 265 Big O's. I feel no power loss or gas milage reduction. I have the same motor as you. They fly down the road with no shimmie or unwanted road humm.
In the LTX the 265's would be my choice. For an expy.

Stick with the 265/75R 16's in a LT type tire. With a large EXPY and a trailer the handling is greatly improved over a P type tire. Much less squishy and bouncy when loaded up.
You can get the LTX M/S in a LT tire with either Load C or Load E load range. The load C is 50psi max. On my F150 I run 40 - 50 psi depending on load on my LTX A/T's, load C in LT265/75R16. Great handling, durability, and long life.
