Question with 16" to 17" wheels

I have a 2000 Expedition XLT. I had 16" stock rims on it. I just purchased stock 17" rims seen below.

The center caps wont stay on. It seems that my lug nuts are not WIDE enough for the grabbing mechinism behind the center cap. What kind of lugnut do I need to hold the center caps on ???

what year are the new wheels off of? you should have(13/16") lug nuts for 14 m.m. studs. if the new wheels are off a '97 thru mid '99 the center caps fit (3/4")lug nuts for 12 m.m. studs. if the not, you could have 3/4 lugs and caps for the 13/16 lug nut. i ran into this on a set i bought off an '98 to put on my 2000.

good luck, conner

Hello conner,

If the caps are taken on and off many times the metal fins get lose. Just take a par of piers and bend them in.

Those wheels come with the 03 Lariat and STX. Just ask the dealer for lugs that fit either of those. All that is assuming that the lugs are different than what you have.
