Got the ABS code now what ???????

My ABS light and Brake light came on. Got the ABS codes and the result was Code 4 (Open/Grounded RABS Valve Reset circuit). What do I need to do to fix this problem ?

Thanks

How did you ground the wire? I tried and can't get it to start. What year is your truck?

I gorunded the wire on the passenger side kick panel to get the code and the ABS light flashed 4 times which means Open/Grounded Rabs valve reset circuit. Which I don't know what to look for now. Truck is 1999.

I got this off of another forum. Don't know if it will help, but gives you a few more clues.

4..Yellow ABS Warning Indicator Flashes Four Times When Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 4:

Possible Source......
Anti-lock electronic control module harness connector, pin 6.
RABS valve harness connector, pin 2 or 3.
Bulkhead connector (between engine compartment and instrument panel).
Anti-lock electronic control module or RABS valve connectors not fully mated with component.
Intermittent open or open circuit in circuits 535 (LB/R) or 274 (BK/W).
Intermittent short or short circuit in circuit 535 (LB/R).
RABS valve.

Did your ABS light stay on after you put it in "run" mode or did it come on for a second then go off and stay off until you ran the diagnostic?

If I turn the truck off for awhile and leave it sit and restart it the abs light and brake light go out then when I start driving down the road they both come on and stay lit. The brakes work fine, no problems. So I read about getting the codes and I ended up with 4 flashes. So now I am wondering where to go next. I need to get it fixed in case I have a real brake problem and don't realize it because the lights are on all the time.

The ABS and Brake light were lit and then I turned the ignition off grounded the wire and turned the ignition on and counted the flashes. Am I explaining what you need to know, correctly ?

So you grounded the wire first then turned on the ignition. Most posts I have read said to turn the ignition on then unplug the wire and then ground.

Hmmmm, I'll try it the other way tomorrow and see if it does the same thing. You are right I didn't read the thread close enough. I could see where it could cause that code to flash if that wire was unhooked at startup. Maybe that will solve that problem and hopefully it will turn out to be the VSS sensor after all. Either way I'll post what happened and if the code turned out to be something different.

Thanks

THH: I saw your other post that said the wires you found went to your air conditioner? I found mine, the black w/orange stripe connected to a single red wire, behind the passenger side kick panel. Mine looks kind of like an after thought. It's taped to another bundle of taped wires.
Like you, I can't get mine to flash, so I'm thinking I am going to have to take it to Ford because I don't know if a brake shop would be able to diagnose the problem. I'll call around. I read one post that said if it is the control module, it will cost about $750-$1000 bucks to replace. One person said they bought one from a salvage yard for $400, but I wonder if it would just fail again.

I finally found the little and I do mean little orange and black wire. So I grounded it like I was suppose to and there it goes ABS light flashes like it said it would but guess what it flashes 16 times... yeah 16 I ran the test about 5 times... So code 16 says RABS System OK what the ****. By the way when you ground your wire, you have to wait a few second before the ABS comes on and begins to flash...

Fixed Code 4 problem by changing the RABS valve.
