305 70 16s on my 2001 screw 4x
OK Boys,
I have a 01 supercrew 4x with stock 17 inch rims and want to upgrade to a more 4x4 look. I want bigger and fatter tires without having to raise the truck. I dont mind trimming or cranking up the bars. Here is the rim: http://www.ultrawheel.com/wheels_detail.cfm?id=47 I would ultimately like to do the 16X10 rim with 305/70/16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains. Can I do it? The tire guy tells me I cannot do anything higher than a 285 without rubbing and suggests a 16X8 rim. Anyone had any success with that combo? Any suggestions?
Humbly,
Richard McLeod

Yeah you can do it with some trimming and maybe cranking the torsion bars some to get a little front end lift. Check out this guys truck

You should be able to do this with out a lift or cranking T-bar. I'm not sure what is the hight different between 4x4 and FX4 but I don't think it is much different. I have 2002 Fx4 with 16x10 AR and 305/70R16 on them with minor trimming. Here is my pic.
If you are looking for bigger (fatter) tire I would go with 16x10 with 305/70R16 (the set up I have). There is only about 1" difference between the factory wheels & tires set up to this 305

The rims are AR Atlas 16" x 10" and the tires are 305/70R16 Nitto Terra Grappler All Terrain. I got these rims and tires from local National Discount Tire store. Quite don't remember how much I paid for the rims but they were on sales and I want to say $125 a piece. As for the tires they were $179 plus mount and balance each. I think you can get them a little cheaper on the web but It was a good things that I did not get them from the web. Last week I had a big screw stuck in the conner of one of my tire and they could not put a patch and National Discount Tire replaces the tire for no charge. Come to find out that all the tire from National Discount Tire comes with Pro-Rated Road Hazard
