How big of tires?!
I just recently (Saturday) bought a 2001 F-150 Supercab Lariat 5.4L with the off-road 4X4 package. Its been a big change since my dad's explorer, and i realized im rolling on 17's, and there loks like i have a substantial ammount of wheel well space for some larger tires. If anybody else out there has the same or very similar truck, can you notify me on how big of tires i can fit?! and of any good MUD TIRE/WHEEL PACKAGES?! THANKS!

THe 35s will fit on the factory rims fine and will not rub any trim. However with the 3" body lift, my 35" mudders actually contact the framerail at full lock of the steering! It never hits when driving, only when you are pulling into a parking space or something. I have been told by a few mechanics that the truck will still pass inspection like this because it is only at full lock. However I didn't want to deal with a picky inspector. So I laid a nice 1/8" bead of weld on both bump stops for the steering on each hub assembly. It limited the steering just the amount I needed to keep the tires from rubbing that frame the way they were. And the bead of weld can be ground off anytime I want to bring the steering back to full, but what I limited it to isn't even noticeable.
THere are other ways around this such as wheel spacers, etc but I didn't want to mess with the offset of the rim, increasing the moment arm on the studs, etc. especially considering I am running a much larger tire than stock in combination with this.
Again I run the mud terrains and just the top of the tread of the mudders rubbed the frame rail. It is possible that an all terrain tire or just another brand of tire will not rub.
Just a warning so that you aren't pissed off in the future. With a suspension lift, you will not have this problem because the frame would be lifted up out of the way. The rub marks on my frame are still visible, I will have to take a pic of them one day and post it so that you guys understand where it rubbed.

Hey Kev, I need your help on this one. Your budget is right up my alley. I'm thinking all I need is a 3inch body lift. I'm kinda new at all this....so sorry if I might as stupid questions.
I have an 02 Screw FX4....the best result for me might be a 3 inch body lift and 33's right.....due to the fact the 35's rub a little as you mentioned?

Yes that would be perfect. I also looked into some 34s before I bought my 35s. They would fit good too.
It is all up to what you want. The 35s look the best but they decrease the performance of the truck more, they cost more, etc. 33s are probably the best bet due to these reasons. But there was just something about NOT wanting to put a lift on my truck just to slap on a set of tires that would have fit with no lift, hehe. So I had to get the 35s.
