Dueler A/T REVO or TOYO Open Country A/T

Still shoppin' and these may be the finalists. ? The KO's are too much money, the Michelin LTX m/s is still a possibility but again too much compared to these tires .

Realistically I'm 85% highway miles 10 % sand the rest muddy jobsites. Handling, hydroplaning, noise and ride are what i'm wondering about.

Wish COSTCO had the REVO's...

Shawn,
In researching other posts I saw that you worked for Toyo and tried in vain to email you to pick your brains about these tires. As i understand it you had the the "normal" version which I assume is the p-metric OC AT's and switched to the LT's.? I wouldn't mind getting a bigger tire if I didn't loose the tread and section width (I think the OEM GY RT/S 265 70 17 was 32" DIA. and 10.8 ) and sacrafice ride comfort I also haven't been able to find a page on the LT version of the tire either. AND one last, who is a a big distributer (discount) of Toyo. Unfortunatly Costco isn't.

WT,

www.1010tires.com sells the Toyo Open Country. I don't know how good it is, but the owners here seem to really like them. I cannot compare, but I have the Revos and like them.

Shawn,

There's no 17" LT OC A/T tire listed on Toyo's website. P265 70 17 113s is the only 17 listed.....

Wusupwidat??

APT,

Thanks, I checked w/ 1010 and they said no other 17" in the Toyo's that they know of. It seems that to ship from BC to me on the east coast is not cost effective either.

But tell me about your REVO's . I think i'm leanin that way.

TOYO TIRE OPEN COUNTRY A/T

WT,

The availibility of the LT285/70R17 is limited right now do to the fact that it is a new tire size and that usually makes it slow getting out to the market due to the strong demand for the tire.

I received a set early due to my contacts at Toyo

Check your local dealer to see when they will get them in stock.

Per Toyo they should be readily availible in March or April.

Check out this Toyo dealer finder to possibly help on that front. I believe

But you live in New Jersey, and Tirerack has a wharehosue there. I'd call up Tirerack and ask if you can pick the tires up and have them mounted at their place. I know the South Bend, IN one has installation services, but not sure about other locations. But it may save you some cash.

I narrowed it down last September to the Yok Geolander A/T Plus II and the Dueler Revo. I called my Tirerack sales rep and discussed with him for a while. He had driven on the Revos on two vehicles and had mixed feelings. Good on one vehicle, not so the other. But, the old Duealer A/T and the Geolander he said were his best two tires for most people. Dueler has 50k warranty, Yok has 40k. I took a chance on the new tire. So far I liek them, but the truck is my wife's and I don't drive it too often. Compared to the worn Goodyear AT/S, they are quieter, have a softer ride, and much better grip in the rain aadn snow whichwas aweful last winter. However, I don't think they are much better than the AT/S were when they were new. Suppusedly these Revos will not fall off in performance/grip as tey wear down like the AT/S did. That is TBD. So far, my wife hasn't complained about needing weight in the back of the pickup like previous winters, though.

I have some pictures of the tires just after mounting them. I think they look very cool.

APT,

Hey, i checked out the photos - good job- they are good looking tires. I actually spoke to TireRack yesterday and if there's a warehouse in NJ the guy didn't volunteer that info. He said they were in I think a Maryland warehouse F.O.B to my house $555.
Tomorrow I'll check the Toyo's from local dealers.
The LT version is very limited availability and i think with the Bilsteins the ride on a LT with the higher PSI required and xtra plys will be too stiff anyway.
I'll keep ya posted.

WT.

Tirerack has a wharehouse in Newark, Delaware, not NJ. Sorry. Good luck with the decision, though.

I just ordered the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's from my local dealer here. I am paying $602.00 for a set of 4 including mounting and lifetime balancing and rotation. It was the best price I was able to find. Only problem is that the dealer's warehouse is out of my size (266R70/17) until the end of Feb.
Once I get them installed I will be sure to post my thoughts on the new tires. They have to be better then the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires, that are down to 4/32" of tread after only 19,000 miles. The wet and snow traction of the Michelins are really terrible and I would recommend that everyone steer away from these tires.

I have the bridgestone dueler At's with 35k on them. Great tire for cost, not much road noise, could be better in snow but still not horrible. Overall a good tire for money. I have 16's on my 98.
Rain and dirt no problem, have not tried hard mudding but only have 2wd. They handle very well.
Hope this helps!

Well, I ended up getting the Revo's and I like em alot. Only about 24 hrs so far but it's been wet most of the time and they are pretty amazing in the wet . Taking off on an uphill on-ramp from a stop sign on concrete into traffic and NO SPIN. Now that's a first after 53k miles. In torrential rain on the interstate @ 70 hitting standing water in the past would have induced a float and a major pucker response. Today - right thru it like butta...... Yeah I'm liken em.
WT

Oh I almost forgot I paid $450. I don't know if the guy was doin me a favor cuz last week I had a problem with a set of tires that I got from him , and I've been a customer for 20 years. These tires do seem to be scarce and in demand so i can see places charging a premium. My guy had to go to a different source to get them in and he is an independant dealer.

WhiskeyTango...

What ply Revo's did you get? I called around and the prices vary depending on the # of plys...Did you get the p metric size or the LT? Looking to buy next week (265/75/16's) for my screw...Curious about the price.

On a 2001 Lariat, you only get 17" rims, either the chome or the ORP sawblades. 265/70R17 only comes in P type, not an LT and is hwat I have as well.
