53K on stock tires?
Like I said before I got 40k out of my Generals. The speedo was right on the money for those tires. I just got back from a trip to Cali and I had a chance to check my odometer over a 100 mile post course and my odometer only racked up 94.5 miles which means I'm over 5% off. That's OK by me, but good to know. I bought replacement generics - A/P Phantom Radials from Discount Tire. 255/70R16. They said they are made by Michellin.
After 32k I replaced my stock BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A (275/60R17) set. They probably could have made it to 36k, but not much more. Then I went with Nitto Extreme 450 (275/50R17). Those tires had nice traction, even down to bare, and provided faster acceleration. But they took a little off the top end and only lasted 34k. I had my speedometer recalibrated when I got those so the odometer wouldn't track 112 miles for every 100 driven.
October last year I went to the Dunlop Radial Rover A/T (265/70R17) because of their 60k warranty; I drive 22-24k per year and couldn't afford to keep buying a new set of tires every 18 months. I had the speedometer recalibrated again to accomodate the Dunlops. I got the acceleration back by installing an AirForce One intake, but I still miss the traction. The Dunlops aren't bad tires, but they're not great, either. Of course, I'll probably think they're wonderful next March when I'm not putting new ones on.
