Subject says it all.... if you buy a vehicle that does not have a Limited SLip rear end, can the dealer add that option? What could one expect to pay?

YES. The dealer COULD! BUT.....it sure would be cheaper getting done elsewhere, and it would probably get done better add a specialty shop.

Yeah, but a specialty shop would void the warranty on the driveline.... thats why I was hoping the dealer could do it for a reasonable price.

But most specialty shops guarantee there work. I see your point though man. But it's very doubtfull Ford would notice a ring and pinion change in your truck. Good Luck!

Brian,

What should be a reasonable price for a specialty shop to charge for this?

I am looking at a new S'Crew and the only thing on my "list" that it lacks is the 3.55LS rear axle, so I am trying to decide whether to just order the truck or get the one without LS and add it.

I'd also love to add it to my mom's new '03 Explorer for her.

Your not going to get rid of that nice truck you already have are you?

A good shop around here would charge $500 for everything. But it can be done for cheaper, just have to ask around your area to find one with a good rep. Good Luck.

Probably if the Bank gives me the green light. Trade In value on it is more than I paid, and I really want a S'Crew really bad.

I love my truck, but really want the 4 doors.... its a hard decision.

I hear ya man. My wife has been driving the truck lately, and I really want to get something bigger, but I owe $17,700 on it with 29,200 miles. That's pretty close to what I could probably sell it for so I will hang on to it for another year or so. Good Luck.

RE: 355 LS

If you are looking at 4x4 then you may very well end up with a 3.73 LS. I have not seen one 03 with the 3.55 LS. The 4x2 still comes with the 3.55 LS. I agree with you, if it does not have LS I move on.

I found a few 4x2 S'Crew's with the 3.55 LS in the area, in fact quite a few. But I have a very specific list of requirements for the truck and if all of them are not met, I am not buying it. One of them is LS and another is 17in wheels and the biggest is Captain's Chairs and console. That combo is way hard to find!

The more I think about it, the more I think I am going to end up keeping what I have. I only paid $18K for it, so I got a freakin steal (that's $10K less than full sticker). I'll never match the deal, so I will probably just keep it and have fun with a lid, new wheels (like 02XLT's ) and a full stereo upgrade....

I have a 2001 Supercrew with the 3.55. For the 9.75 LS the dealer charged me $275 for the LS new bearings, synthetic fluid and the modifier. Then I had a relative put it in for me. Took about 2 hours from start to finish.
