Service engine soon light
Service engine soon light
My check engine light came on tonight. I read here how to get the code out with the trip button and ignition. I am getting a code of 5284 which should be the Oil pressure switch failure. Should I be ok to drive it over the weekend until I get it in? I assume it's just a sensor failure.
Thanks,
Craig

Code "5284" will be displayed whenever you check with the engine off. The engine will not have any oil presure unless it's running. Don't worry about that one unless the engine is running.
There should be another code in there.

From my understanding you don't get to many useful codes from the trip button. In order to find out what set a "check engine" you will need a code reader to read from the OBDII port. Autozone will do that free for you. They will let you know what the code is and what it "may" be related to.
The best thing to do is take it in and have the dealership read the code and do what ever troubleshooting they deem necessary.
One thing that is common for setting "check engine" is the fuel cap not being on correctly or snug. You might want to insure the fuel cap is on correctly and see if you get the light. If not problem solved. If you get it again then try Autozone, dealership or get a code scanner.
