HELP Quick!!

I was driving to and from A&M to houston and when I get on the gas it feels like the engine is surging, like it cant get power, it rev's fine when in neutral, but when accelerating it pulsates. I cant tell if its bad gas, a problem with the electrical system, bad cylinder, bad alternator.
on a side note, the headlights dont dim when it pulsated, no problems with my A/C, or stereo.
on a nother side note I heard three loud clang noises come from the engine compartment, that i could feel in the pedal.
sorry this is so wordy but i wanted to get all the facts out. I need the truck wednesday to go home, but i was wondering if there was some shop time needed. or if i can wait to get it repaired in houston

Sounds like it could be misfiring. It could be a number of problems from fuel filter, plugs, injector, wires, coil packs etc. If you haven't changed the fuel filter in awhile, I would start there. Same thing for a tuneup. If that doesn't take care of it, then some shop time may be in order. I'm surprised it hasn't triggered the check engine light. Ignition and fuel problems will sometimes only show up under load, so that could explain why revving the engine in park doesn't cause the problem. Good luck.

If you have an Autozone near by, you might want to go there and get the code scanned. They'll do it for free. Chances are you should be ok to get back to Houston, but you definitelty don't want to get stuck in between, so it might be best to see if you can at least get it looked at by a shop and have them help make the determination if it should be driven very far or not.

Thumbs up

You got a reasonable amount of wear out of both of them I think. My battery died right at four years with no warning. Cranked fine three times one morning, then the fourth it was dead. I had my plugs and wires changed at about 72,000, and didn't really notice any difference other than a slight throttle response improvement. Some guys have gotten 35,000 miles out of the plugs and their shot, and some go the full 100k. 65 to 75k is the average from what I've seen. Good to hear it runs fine again!,,,,98
