Cool

HI!... Well there is a lot of LIGHTNING owners that are running aftermarket cams and they don't seem to be having ANY problems with "SCREWED" up sensors. A aftermarket chip can take care of the higher lift cams. Seen it done MANY times in MUSTANGS.

Not sure what the outcome will be yet, but have three different companies working on the problem. Will post the outcome which will probably be after the 1st of the year.

Neal,
The cams that people are running in lightning and stangs, are they lopey high end cams or just something like an rv cam, smooth running with little hp increase? Just curious here, I would have bet a hundred bucks on my knowledge on this subject. I know on older vehicle with just a MAP, camming was not possible without a special sensor which was available for there vehicl

I feel bad about misleading someone here, I guess I should just stay to my GM's and leave the fords alone. I know my **** on GM's.

Did this cam require an aftermarket chip?

MODMAX CAM SPECS :

The numbers they state are:
4.6 & 5.4 SOHC N/A Mild Street Strip
(I) 214@ .050 .525 lift
(E) 214@ .050 .550 lift

HI!... Yes, all after market cams need a custom programed chip. I'm pretty sure the re-grinds don't but the new higher lift cams do. You will get a better answer from MIKE TROYER over in the "COMPUTER CHIPS" section.

does it have to have a chip or does a chip just optimize the situation. cams are such unknown territory with the modular motor that a dyno type tune would seem to be the only way a chip could be properly done. seems like i saw a thread where Mike T was talking about an aftermarket cam with just more lift and a little more duration and it made little to no difference. some of the older 5.0 and lt-1 camaros would see a descent gain from more lift and a little more duration. this is one of those situations where you might spend good money and see poor results.
the 4.6 has been in the mustang since 1995, does ford make performace cam for it? the 5.4 has been in trucks for 6 years, why doesnt crane or comp cams have a line of cams for them( not customs). either they dont feel there is a market for them or they havent got a product they are happy with.

good luck.
