What constitues warranty violation?
Unfortunately...
anything they SAY!
Floormats?
Decals???
Girlfriend in passenger seat???
Open Windows???
Well, maybe it's not THAT bad, but they especially get off on preformance chips. But, anything where they can't find an answer to a problem...it becomes an easy out for them.
You're best off removing a chip, especially.

warrenty
hes right everything they can find, I have a 01 f-150, Mother has a 02 Escape great little jeep, but her diver mirror rattled all over, they said it was due to aftermarket bug deflector LOL
The warranty is only void if damage occurs. Keep in mind that Ford is only responsible for parts installed at the factory or replaced under warranty. They won't and shouldn't have to warranty any parts that you alter or aftermarket parts.
After market parts must actually cause damage to void a warranty. They can't void the entire vehicle warranty based on a single mod. Adding a Supercharger would rightfully void the entire powertrain warranty but most certainly does not legally void the warratnty on interior parts or body panels.
This is Ford's Warranty Policy.
The aftermarket part has to actually cause damage to a Ford part to void the warranty on that particular part or parts related.
The new vehicle warranty does not cover damage caused by.....

You've got a coupld real good links here. I think that these links offer some real good information.
Warranty claims should be handled on a case by case basis. If you're in for an oil change than there shouldn't be any reason to disscuss the warranty at all. I guess it doesn't always happen that way though. A good relationship with the service dept. can be very helpful. You'll still have to deal with some issues but I think they would be more inclined to help when they can. I guess sone dealerships tell people that any mod voids the warranty, as a way to intimedate. Or maybe they're just not sure how it works themselves.
We have rights, and responsibilaties reguarding the warranty. If we choose to modify then we are assuming liability. There is risk when modding, so the more we know, the better.

To Mod or not to Mod
I think if you are going to mod then it doesn't make any sense to buy and extended powertrain warranty. Save your money and put it towards any future potential repair.
I had my Mustang GT in for repair of a broken air filter canister where it attaches to the firewall and I had just put in a K&N 500 miles previously and the dealer told me that the K&N fouls up the MAF sensor and if it went out it wouldn't be covered by the warranty because of the K&N. Seemed ridiculous at the time but who am I to argue.
