engine dies

two days ago I went to start my truck and it woulden't stay running.. it would fire but then die right away.. if I gave it gas fast enuf I could keep it going but as soon as I took my foot of the gas it would die.. I went under the hood and made sure all the wires and stuff was tight, checked for any signs of dammage but nothing. after this it started..

Today I had the same problem except I "two footed" it so I could drive home. after about 5 minuits of driving I found it was fixed again and I was able to take my foot off the gas.

anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Steve

Sounds like a stuck IAC. Common problem. Try tapping it to unstick it.

This happened to me and the IAC was gummed up. When I hit it a few times it unstuck itself.

I had the IAC replaced under warranty at about 25K. It was on back order at the time and I had to carry a screwdriver for the intermittent 'no idle' condition.

AjRagno, do you know why doctors write their perscriptions in Latin?

It's so one patient can't get another patient's diagnosis.

Now, I'm not so sure I would have perscribed what you have attributed to me in StirCrazy's situation.

Ahemmmm!........Stir Crazy, I am of the opinion that you should have Ford lend you a 'Flight recorder'. This will trap whatever codes may be present next time your truck won't start. Don't be two-footin down the road like that. Just sit there and record for an hour or two, that should be enough to git plenty of codes.
Then, disconnect the recorder and walk it down to the Ford dealer however far that may be. Let the dealer listen to the tape.
Now to you it may just sound like whales singing but, to the trained ear of a dealer who knows you're out of warranty, it's valuable information.

(the nerve of some people)

If the light is not blinking at the dealer and they cannot determine the problem, tell them you want a Flight Recorder to trap the code.

(If you are out of warranty, you are looking at $80 - $140)

Sometimes a problem can be intermittent. This can be frustrating when the dealer says, "Cannot duplicate problem". I have been through this.

They have 'flight recorders' to trap such pesky error codes.

Talking

LOL, you didn't have to edit that other thread, it was so true.
I just wish I could remember what that third thing was.
