Engine Power Curve for 1990 5.0L V-8

Just wondering if anyone has retained the torque/horsepower rating information on the 1990 Ford F-150 V-8 engine, or the power curve chart?

That engine went for 201,000 miles before I sold it and bought a new 2002 Supercrew with the 4.6L engine. The salesman from whom I bought the new truck purchased my old one, and still drives it around town everyday!

I'd like to compare the power curves of both of these two engines. Thanks.

From my experience I think the 302 has more power. i had a 92 bronco 4X4 with the 302 5.0 and I currently have a 4.6 4X2. Stock to stock the 302 that out weighs my 4.6 would win. I think the big difference for me was no rev limiter which allowed a better shift. I would also venture to say that the gear ratio was higher in the E4OD tranny than the 4R70W.

Its kind of surprising you think your old 302 is faster. The newer 4.6 modular actually makes roughly 50HP more than the 302 in those comparable years. The 302 up untill 92 only made 185HP while the latter model 4.6's make 235HP however when the modulars first came out they were, if anything, less powerfull than the older pushrods. The 302 has the 4.6 beat for torque with a curve much lower and very close in #'s to the 4.6

One of my friends has a 94 Chev 350 auto. He drove his cousins brand new 4.6 5 speed and said it was soooo much faster than his truck. And I know my truck is considerably slower than the 94 chev so im guessing the 4.6 is a decent power plant.

I can't speak myself for the 4.6 power but I do own a 1990 f150 with a 5.0 5 speed. Its by no means anywere close to acaptable power level but it gets me there and back. But unfortunately thats about it. So I would venture to say the newer trucks are MUCH more snappier.

My buddy had a 96 F-150 4x4 Short Box Regular Cab with the 5.0 and an auto. Now we both have Extra Cab 4x4's with the 4.6 Auto.

My initial impression was that the 4.6 is a more powerful engine . . . it certainly is at higher revs and I realize that you want low end torque for a truck engine, but it's not lacking there either. I think the 4.6 is a more durabke powerplant. From what I remember, peak torque was only slightly higher for the 4.6 but peak hp was greater by a reasonable margin.

I asked my buddy which engine he preferred since he had both, and he replied that the 4.6 felt more powerful than the 5.0 . . . not by a huge amount though.

Both are good engines, but I think the 4.6 runs a little stronger.
