Unhappy On The Seventh Day!

God created the Hemi. With Dodge dealers literally screaming for it, it's just a matter of time before we see the new Hemi in the 1500 pickups. So what is Ford doing? When will they get off their butts and put the 5.4 DOHC from the Navigator in the F150? Also aren't Chevy/GM using that 6.0 345 HP engine now?

Cool

No offense...but Hemi Shmemi. You can have all the hp in the world from GM and Dodge but Ford builds a great TRUCK engine. Could not be any happier with a measly 260hp and a ton of low end torque...350 @ 2500. I bought my truck to tow a boat with a camper in the bed. And haul wood and dirt and bricks and...
If I wanted to go fast I would have bought a Lightning. No one can keep up with that either!

I bet your truck would have towed your boat every bit aswell with with the Navigator motor. The current 5.4 is pretty strong on the low end, but there's definately room for improvement. I believe I read Ford's new engine they are developing is rumored to have just over 300 hp.

I want a HEMI. but i don't want the new dodge body that is around it. I want to wait till i need to rebuild my 5.9 and replace with a hemi. Actually, i want to wait till the 2003 Ram Rod comes out. The Lightning is nifty, but what to do about a Dodge 1500 with a V10???

Cool

True STX, but my point is that these are trucks afterall. When I see Dodge and GM boasting thier hp numbers at 5000rpm, and consequently, torque at over 4000, it's all hype. Go and check out a Chevy truck forum and you see the posts regarding lack of low-end grunt from 4.8 and 5.3 owners, not to mention the 6.0! And this new Hemi has a peak torque at 4200rpm? And it's only 375lb ft? Maybe it's just me...but it looks like trucks are turning into sports cars before our very eyes.
Dodge 4x4...what to do with a 1500 with a V10? Next to a Lightning? That would be interesting.

I just read at a http://www.edmunds.com that Chevrolet is putting a 295 horse version of the 5.3 (with the 4.2 inline six still being standard) in the Trailblazers for next year. That should not only be a haulin' little SUV, but also have a useful payload.

As far as Ford', motor, it gets the job done fairly well, and I believe they will change and improve things

Speaking of, I wan't to see a modifed Intercooled and Supercharged 6.8 liter V10 in the Lightnings!! I bet it would blow that new Rams V10 away!!

Chevy and Dodge must think we all drive around with our engines revving and screamin like banshees.

The new Hemi's aren't even real hemi's. The old ones form the 60's and 70's had lots of power but they were very picky with there timing and they weren't very fuel efficient. There is no way to make a true hemispherical combustion chamber that passes today's emissions. The new hemi is sort of based on the old one but mostly it's just marketing hype.

You know...ever since I bought my truck, I've been getting flack from my peers about spending 30 grand on a single cab truck.I can't imagine what it will feel like to the person that spends 50 on practically the same thing! V-10...sure, but I know of some guys on this site that have their L's flat flying. And I doubt they even spent 45 total.

Just my $0.02 worth

Cool

That stupid Hemi just doesn't seem like a good truck motor. It's seem's more of a marketing stunt. They will come standard in a 3500 Dually? Hmmm...good luck. They portay it as being the best thing since sliced bread.
The Lightning was one of Ford's best ideas. I don't see anything touching it...even a V10 Dodge. It will give it some competition sure...but those L's are incredible.
