Question Check Engine Code PO455

Check engine light on my 2000 F150-V6 came on the other day. Stopped by the neighborhood AUTOZONE and determined it was code #PO455. The narrative reads:

PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THERE IS A LARGE LEAK IN THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM.

Question: What is the Evaporative Emission Control Sys. and where might I begin troubleshooting?

As always, thanks for the help.

yup gas cap.

the evaporative system takes fumes from the gas in your tank and re-cycles/burns them so they don't leak in to the atmosphere

just put your cap on tight re-set your computer and away you go. if you don't want to re-set the pcm it will take a few cold start cycles to clear the mil

there is a remote possability that a line came of or is cracked coming off the charcoal canister. have you changed headlights or done anything under the hood lately?

your "O"-ring on your gas cap might be warn.

good luck-

Thanks,

I was thinking along the lines of the gas cap or something of that nature.........(EVAPORATIVE was the giveaway). I will check these items and repost if and when it corrects the situation.

Thanks again!
