What do they do with the old oil?
What do they do with the old oil?
Just outa curiosity,
When I take my truck in for an oil change, and the dealer discards it (and charges me a $2 disposal fee)
What becomes of it?
Is it recycled and then sold to us again?
The reason I ask, is because when my old oil is drained, it looks as clean as the day I put it in, so I often wondered if they re-refine it, or filter it again to sell as new oil.
Thanks
Alex

I believe they re-use the oil for certian types of tractors and large equipment. I asked my mechanic and he said they reprocess it.

As far as what I do with mine:
I use to take it in somewhere that dispoised of it. Then after hearing many treehuggers worrying about how guys like us are using it all up I figured I would just dump it back in the ground where it orignally came from.
I figure that way there will still be some for future generations...
, guess that makes me kind of a tree hugger now huh???

My dealership has the oil burning heaters that use old oil. During the summer months they store it in tanks. It's funny how they can charge us $2.00 or $3.00 for us giving them their winter heat source.

Maybe I should post that over there under the heading of:

I always heard it was one of the main ingredients in ashpalt. I also heard they use some of it to make Olefin carpet fibers. The type of carpet that turns black when it wears. Most berber carpet is olefin and turns black over time when the color wears out of it.
